Miss Claire Bleasdale & Dr Frank Allison

In September we went on a very romantic holiday to Venice and Rome, took in all the usual sights, it was wonderful and

The weather was lovely.  On our final day the weather was hot but later in the afternoon the heavens opened and it rained…. a lot!  We took refuge in a bar - after about 4 hours we left the bar, a little tipsy, and we were making our way back to the hotel when we decided to have a race to the top of the Spanish Steps. We reached the top and thoroughly out of breath Frank surprised me by getting down on one knee (in a puddle!)  and asking me to marry him!!  I promptly cried and said yes!

James & Helen

I was supposed to be going to Paris with 4 mates to watch the final of the Tour de France, but when I arrived at Waterloo I realized I had Helen’s passport! They had got muddled on the kitchen table! I had a non – refundable ticket so I transferred it to the next weekend and bought Helen a first class ‘Champagne breakfast’ ticket to go with it.  When we arrived in Paris we went for lunch at a beautiful restaurant called Alcazar? And during dessert I looked at Helen and realised that I never wanted to be with any one else ever in my life. All of a sudden the pieces of the jigsaw were all there in place and I had no more control of my actions as the obviousness of what had to be done dawned upon me. We walked slowly through the soft Parisian summertime to the foot of the Eiffel Tower where I managed surreptitiously to purchase a J’adore! keyring! We then went to the very top of the tower and I took her in my arms and told her that, with her consent, we would be married within a year. And on the 19th August 2006 I will have failed by only twenty days!     P.S. I have since replaced the key ring with a real one!

Nadia & Nicky

My partner of 2 years took me down to the beach on my 21st birthday to take the dog for a walk and as we were walking back he gave me a hug and reached into his pocket and got out the ring and asked me to marry him. Now I know to some people this may not be romantic but if you knew my partner then it’s the most romantic thing ever (he isn’t very good at all the mushy stuff)

Jo & James

Both myself and my fiancé love Christmas. We always get very excited and can't wait to get the tree and decorate the house.  For us it's tradition to get the tree on the first weekend of December. So 2 years ago we travel to Delemere forest to choose our tree. We have a lovely day - Christmas carols playing whilst we choose our tree and we even treat ourselves to a cheese burger and chips. We then drive home and begin to set up the tree. We put it up in the living room and take our time putting on all the decorations.

By the time we've finished its dark and the room looks lovely with lots of twinkly lights. Then James (my fiancé) announces that there's pressies under the tree. I start to think it might be the big question but keep my cool. He bends down behind the tree and gives me a little parcel. I open it to find, not the ring that I'd been expecting, but a sweet little wooden Christmas elf. James then gives me another little parcel - which I again open and find a mini Christmas tree to match the elf. Then James again gives me another little parcel. I open it to find my engagement ring. James then asks me to marry him. Which I say Yes to immediately and give him a big big hug. He then pops into the kitchen and brings out a bottle of champagne and glasses. As we're toasting the engagement the doorbell rings and I open it to accept a big bunch of flowers from a delivery man. After half an hour of non-stop smiling and feeling slightly light-headed from the champagne James takes me out for a lovely romantic meal.

However, despite all of this romance, the best bit was coming home to our cosy house, with my new fiancé and sitting on the sofa looking at the sparkly Christmas lights and my engagement ring!!!!!!!!

Gemma & Jonathon

My fiancé proposed on my 21st birthday.  He took me back to the restaurant we went to on our first date, except this time we had what we wanted, not just burgers like when we were poor students and that was all we could afford.  Then we stopped at the hill over the park on the way home, where he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him as he couldn’t imagine not having me by his side.  Now I am looking forward to getting married in September and can’t imagine being without him.

Catherine & Mark

Mark and I had decided to go to Norfolk for a day out on Good Friday 2005 (it actually turned out to be the BEST Friday ever). We decided to go to a beach in the morning and he told me that he would organise the afternoon as I normally organised our days out. I wasn't too surprised when he told me about some lakes in a nature park that he wanted to visit as he's a keen fisherman. Apparently there was a pub nearby that had good reviews for food so we would go there before visiting the nature park. We had just finished our lunch when I saw a jeep pull up outside the pub with 'balloon rides' written across the side and a big wicker basket on a trailer. I was just thinking how exciting that would be when he said 'I've got a surprise for you - that's what we'll be doing this afternoon!'. I was completely shocked- I hadn't suspected a thing and apparently went bright red! Anyway, to cut a long story short, whilst we were up in the air, Mark got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful ring. It was one of the most magical and special moments of my life! I couldn't believe the effort and thought that he put into organising it all and everyone I told said he must be a true romantic!

Moira & Scott

My boyfriend Scott and I had lived together for about 3 years when he told me he wouldn't be home for his birthday night as he was going straight to the pub with mates from work.  Obviously, I wasn't pleased (which I think he banked on) as I had imagined we'd do something together but he was adamant, so I went to the bingo with my mum and sister - a fairly typical Monday evening.   When I got home (at only 9:30), I couldn't believe the house was already in darkness and thought he'd gotten so drunk that he'd gone to bed early.  As I entered the house, I could hear music coming from the bedroom so decided he'd fallen asleep with the tv on.  Imagine my shock when I entered and found him in a black suit on one knee, with a ring extended - waiting for me to arrive home so he could propose!!!   There were rose petals scattered over the bed all and round the room so the place smelt absolutely amazing, and he'd placed candles on every surface round the room (hence the darkness).  I was so surprised, it took me half an hour to realise I hadn't actually accepted (even though I was already wearing the ring!).  We are getting married in July this year

Aled & Amanda

Aled and I had been living together for 3 years and even though marriage had been mentioned a few times- we hadn’t really given it much thought, much to my Mum’s disappointment! We were taking a three-year anniversary holiday on a beautiful island called Borocay in the Philippines. Me, being the sun worshipper that I am was blissfully unaware of anything going on at all throughout the day as Aled kept coming down to the beach then disappearing again for long periods of time (arranging the whole thing) That evening, after applying loads of cream and mosquito spray we walked out of our beach chalet and along the beach toward the local restaurants. As we were leaving our resort Aled was shouted to by one of the waiters (he wanted to know if the room was clear to begin preparations), I had completely blocked out what was being said as I had been showered in sand down my legs by Aled’s abrupt turn around. My newly sanded legs, of course, only put me in a bad mood and I stomped off up the beach! Anyhow, we had a lovely evening meal by the sea and although I was keen to go onto a few more bars Aled insisted that he was tired and wanted to go back to our room. When we eventually arrived back he asked if I wanted to go for a nice (romantic) stroll down the beach to get a clearer view of the moon but I was more intent on finishing off my trashy novel that was sat waiting on the veranda. After a while I eventually decided the mosquito’s were getting too much and so went inside but, when I entered our room I got the shock of my life - the bed was covered in beautiful exotic pink and white flowers, a bottle of champagne was chilling at the side of the bed and there, in the middle of the flowers, was a fantastic blue plastic ring. Of course I knew immediately what was about to come and so began to cry. Al got down onto one knee and asked me to marry him, which of course I said yes to and we are now getting married this summer,  (surprised he still wanted to marry me at all considering how difficult I had made the evening). I now have a beautiful diamond ring but still treasure my lovely blue plastic engagement ring and hold it as a prize possession safely in my jewellery box

Francesca & James

I was just leaving my sisters house, in March 2005 , when my boyfriend called chasing to see when I would be home .  We were booked to go to a restaurant that night and he rang to make sure I wasn't going to be late home, which is usually the case.  I said to him that I was just leaving and he said that’s good because the restaurant I ’ ve booked is in Rome and our flights are in 3 hours! Panic stations, speedy driving , a short flight a nd couple of hours later and we were in a beautiful hotel in Rome.  We had a lovely evening meal and the next day saw the sights the Treve Fountain, the Coliseum, the Spanish steps and the Vatican   ( looking back James was acting a bit quiet )   when we got back to the hotel, after I ’ d just had a long bubble bath he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Apparently he’d been trying to ask me all day “ somewhere romantic ” , but I was so excited about being in Rome I kept dashing off or dragging him somewhere .   I don’t think it could have been more special. We’d been together 10 years so it was a wonderful end to our first Decade together – cant wait for the next 10.

Nicola & Peiro

My fiancee proposed to me in April 2005 when we were on holiday in Devon. He had taken me on a surprise trip on an old steam train and got on one knee and proposed in our first class booth just as we were traveling past a beautiful part of the coastline.

Ellen & Rob

It was Christmas Eve and my boyfriend told me he'd won a raffle prize at work - a VIP ride on the Manchester Big Wheel! I was very excited as I never win anything.

We made our way to the centre of Manchester and waited to get on the wheel. It was freezing! Eventually we got on and investigated the inside of the blacked out carriage - plasma TV, champagne, and a glass floor!

As the wheel started to move, my boyfriend had his eyes shut tight - he doesn't like heights!!

The wheel went round a couple of times and my boyfriend managed to open his eyes. He pointed out of the window behind me and said "what's that over there?" I turned round to see what he was looking at. When I turned back he was sitting there with a small box in his hand. Inside was a twinkly diamond ring.

"Will you marry me?" Those immortal words!  Of course, how could I refuse such a proposal...?

Irene & Martin

We were celebrating our 1 year anniversary, so we decided to go back to wardour castle (Salisbury).  As this is where we went when we were just friends and realised that we had feelings for each other.  We were going to repeat the same day at the castle, a picnic in the grounds.

As I began laying out the food martin bent down on one knee and opened the engagement box and proposed.  What was so special about the day besides the proposal was that martin had dislocated his knee a few weeks back and it was strapped up. He was obviously in pain but managed to somehow bend his knee and pop the question.

Tim & Angela

On Friday the 9th of December we set off for Tim’s Birthday celebrations in the Lake District on route we had a phone call from his friend to say that he was running later so he was going to meet us where they (Tim and him) used to meet for hockey. So I was then directed to Stansted airport as they used to meet in the terminal (I know!).

When we got there Tim checked us in to a flight to Libjuana (not the Lake District then) at which point I was v confused having already packed my passport in a moving box! And not knowing where Libjuana was as I told the girl at check-in I can’t go there I can’t even pronounce it! Well it’s in Slovenia. Tim took me away as he knew we wouldn’t have much time before Christmas to spend alone and we’re staying at his mum’s. When we got there we stayed in Bled a really beautiful place it has a lake in the middle and on the lake is an island with a church which you can row out to. The hotel was fab we had a suite which was twice the size of our flat and a Jacuzzi bath and a swimming pool. You could see the Alps and the town was covered in snow.

On Saturday we walked round the lake and at about four when it was just getting dark Tim insisted we row out to the island across the lake. So we got into a wooden rowing boat - by which point I was petrified! And he rowed me across the lake the scenery was breathtaking! When we got to the island we moored up and we were the only ones there we went to the Church to try and ring the wishing bell inside which you do for luck but it was locked then Tim sat me down outside on a bench over looking the lake, produced a ring and proposed! So we are engaged yey!!!! And as he proposed the bell started ringing inside the church!

Rhiannon & Nathan
Nathan and I were on holiday in the Loire Valley in France, for a week of great wine, fab food and admiring one or two chateaux. On my birthday we cycled though some beautiful woodland and countryside to one particular chateau, Chateaux de Chenoceau, that was absolutely stunning. It was stretched across a river bank, with grand gardens all around it; it looked like it had fallen out of a fairy tale. I turned around after remarking on how it was one of the most beautiful amazing places I'd ever seen, and taking photo's, to find Nathan on one knee with a ring box in his hand, saying how I was the most beautiful amazing lady he had ever seen, and asked me to marry him. We spent the rest of the day sitting in the chateaux gardens, drinking wine produced on site, and wishing I had not let myself get so hot and sticky on the bike ride there and that my hair was not in wind blown bunches!

Rhiannon

Ed & Sarah-Jayne

I had been abroad working for 10 days so Sarah-Jayne planned to spend some time together the afternoon I arrived home.
Little did she know that whilst I had been away I had booked a Hot air balloon flight. I managed to drive the car into the 'take off' field before she realised what we were doing.

The hot air balloon rose to 3000 ft and we drifted silently across the surrey and Hampshire countryside. Then when we spotted our house I got down on one knee in the basket and proposed. Soon after we landed and cracked open the champagne.

We are getting Married in August.

Frankie & Gavin

Gavin told Frankie that he was taking her to dinner at her favourite restaurant just down the road from the beautiful farm house she was born in. He drove past the restaurant "by mistake" and turned the car round outside the farm house. He said that there was something wrong with the car so we both got out to look (in the drizzle!). I got to the back of the car to find him on one knee in the road and he asked me to marry him and presented me with a stunning diamond and platinum engagement ring. He then said he would like to marry me in Rome, how fantastic. I also then thought to myself, I am going to have to get the muck off those jeans now he has been kneeling in the road!! We did get married in Rome, it was fabulous and we would do it again tommorrow.

Lorraine & Graham

Lorraine found Graham on one knee with a chinese takeaway in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other. He had a ring box in his mouth and mumbled "will you marry me?". Lorraine said yes and opened the box to find an elegant sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

Celeste & Paul

Celeste was invited to a picnic in Harrogate along with her young daughter Charlotte. The picnic turned out to be a fabulous Champagne picnic where Paul popped the question. He was so romantic he even asked Charlotte's permission to marry her Mum. Paul gave Celeste a wondeful sapphire and diamond ring. Celeste, Paul & Charlotte all went to the Maldives to become a family.

Cara & Neil

They were on holiday in the Dominican republic just chatting in their hotel room about life in general, when Neil became very emotional. He said "I want you to be Mrs Waterer" They are marrying this year 2006.

Posie and Greg

It was the morning of my birthday said Posie. Greg was just about to go to work, while I enjoyed a lie in. He popped back to the bedroom to kiss me goodbye and then presented me with the most amazing antique ring that he had chosen. That is one birthday I will never forget.
